The Singapore Blue(Omothymus Violaceopes) is a species of large tree tarantula found naturally in Malaysia and Singapore. In 1924, it was initially reported to the academic world under the name Lampropelma violaceopedes, but changed to the name Omothymus Violaceopes in 2019, as certain names cannot be plural under international animal nomenclature. Because of this, many breeders and tarantula shops still classify it as 'Lampropelma', but we should know exactly that this tarantula is called 'Omothymus Violaceopes'.
It is common for these tarantulas to grow to over 22 cm in size, and it is judged that they can grow bigger and healthier depending on their breeding environment. The growth rate is also very fast. When they start to get a little closer to the adult, they whole body turns dark blue and you have a yellow or brown dorsal carapace. Because of its soft, beautiful blue color, Singapore Blue has become one of the world's most loved tarantulas. Because sexual dysplasia is evident, unlike females, males are small in size and have a dark beige or brown color throughout their bodies. The male has only one color, while the female has two to three colors at the same time.
From sling to adults, Singapore Blue has a tremendous food response and hunting speed, so it can grow quickly and get more nutrients. It is also perfect to observe the ecology because they rarely refuse to eat unless it is time to prepare for molting.
The most noticeable difference from other tarantulas is the ability to bite. Singapore Blue is very aggressive and defensive, and its travel speed is among the top. Therefore, always be careful when replacing or cleaning containers as there is a possibility of Singapore Blue escaping or attacking the keeper.
