Poecilotheia regalis is a species of arboreal tarantula that is often found in certain parts of India and around Sri Lanka. It's commonly called Indian Ornamental and grows to a significant size, just like other tarantulas in the genus Poecilotheria. It was first found in India and was named Indian tarantula because it is native to India.
Indian Ornamental is very fast-growing tarantulas. Most of them will have the same size as adults within two years, and some say that the growth rate gradually slows as they get closer to adults.
It is known that females grow much larger than males, and females usually grow up to 18-20 cm, sometimes up to 22 cm. Males generally have a lifespan of less than five years, and females have a lifespan of more than 10 years and less than 20 years. In juvenile, most bodies are light brown, but when they are fully adult, white, black, and yellow appear in combination. Sometimes you see purple depending on the light or angle.
In its natural state, these spiders live between holes or narrow gaps in a large tree, so they must have a climbing tree or structure when constructing a container. Like other arboreal tarantula, it moves very quickly and is good at hunting. If you have a strong tendency to be active at night rather than during the day and you have a large container, you can observe a fairly large area.
It is one of the very popular and popular tarantulas due to its unique pattern, low care difficulty, and large size, but it has a stronger poison than expected, so careful attention is required when care. This is because it involves strong pain, wounds, and dizziness, even if it is not fatal to humans.
It is known as a special species that does not require a separate water supply even if it becomes an adult. Even if you don't drink water directly, you can absorb enough moisture from the food and from the moist air. However, too high humidity can easily cause decay inside the container, so you will need a well-ventilated container. I recommend a narrow and tall container rather than a wide and low shape.
